Team Coaching

Who is team coaching for?

  • Teams led by middle to senior managers who are newly formed
  • Teams led by middle to senior managers who are seeking improved performance

Why?

Forming a team does not automatically result in high performance, yet high performance is what is often expected. The journey from a working group to a high performing team takes time. People need time to learn about themselves and their teammates so that they can establish relationships of trust and support each other’s performance.

What we do

We partner with teams to overcome the common obstacles of effective teams. We create psychological safety, reducing fear and enabling teammates to feel sufficiently ok about a new level of vulnerability. We increase trust, team unity, accountability and performance.

We use a variety of individual and team assessments, one on one coaching, and team coaching workshops to transform the team to high performance. We have an intention to support the development of the team to the point at which they are a self – sustaining high performing team.

Our team coaching process includes four phases

Phase 1: Increase Self-Awareness

360-Degree Feedback Survey: Each team member and the team leader participate in a 360-degree feedback assessment and coaching session with an executive coach. The results are used to help the participant understand.

Individual Coaching Sessions: A Crystallize Consulting executive coach conducts a 90-minute face to face one on one coaching session with each team member to debrief the 360 survey results. The coach will help each individual to develop self-awareness and individual responsibility. Working together, the team member and coach, co-create a personal development plan to address opportunity areas borne from the survey results and insights gained during the session.

Phase 2: Increase Team-Awareness

Leadership Culture Survey: Each team member and the team leader participate in a Leadership Culture Survey™. The Leadership Culture Survey™ is a litmus test of team culture. It tells you how your people view their current team culture and compares that reality to the optimal team culture they’re seeking. The “gap” between data on the current culture and the desired outcome instantly reveals key opportunities for leadership development.

Team Culture Debrief: Meeting together for the first time since survey completion the goals of this initial team coaching session are to:
• Begin to build safety
• Reveal how the actual culture shows up relative to the desired team culture.
• Discuss what would Ideal team culture – look/feel/sound like.
• Decide on the top 2-3 gaps to focus upon
• Consider collective assumptions that may hinder progress
• Agree actions, accountabilities and follow up feedback loops

Phase 3: Individual Coaching Sessions

A Crystallize Consulting executive coach conducts a second 90- minute face to face one on one coaching session with each team member to consider the relationship between their personal development plan created in phase 1. The coach will support each individual to develop self-awareness and individual responsibility and accountability to their own and the team’s development.

The over-arching goal of individual coaching is to support the development of the individual to the point at which change has occurred or goal striving is self – sustaining. The extent to which the executive coach supports the individual is highly specific with the duration one on one session determined on a case by case basis.

Phase 4: Building the Team

Workshop Preparation and Customisation: Before each team coaching session workshop, the team coach will prepare activities and materials specific to the needs of the team. Content and activities for the follow-up meetings will be tailored to the needs and opportunities discovered in the previous
meeting.

Interviews: Before each of the team coaching sessions, the team coach will conduct individual interviews with each team member. These interviews are designed to better understand the perspectives of each team member and identify issues that need to be addressed during the team coaching sessions.

Setting sail: The over-arching goal of team coaching is to support the development of the team to the point at which they are a self – sustaining high performing team. The extent to which the team coach supports the team is highly specific to the individual team with the duration of the team coaching
relationship and support determined on a case by case basis.
